Discreetly tucked down a side street off Asheville Highway, there is an element of surprise when entering the large beautiful community of Deerlake Village. The expansive community lake is the first of many serene views, reflecting Pine Mountain in the clear mountain water.
Deerlake Village prides itself on offering the wide range of residential community benefits one hopes to find in Western North Carolina. Neighbors are friendly and privacy is respected. Shared amenities include a lap swimming pool, bocce ball, horseshoes, badminton, and croquet.
The subdivision’s almost 400 residents and over 200 private homes are segmented into three distinct areas, all with a common theme of attractive, natural landscaping. The lower area, The Meadows, offers easy one-level living and easily navigable streets where one is likely to encounter neighbors on evening strolls in nice weather. Further up the mountain, literally, into the foothills of the community, is the area known as The Cottages. The Cottages offer multi-level living on streets with rolling hills. The Mountains, as the name implies, are multi-level mountain homes located on large lots atop Pine Mountain.
THE HISTORY OF DEERLAKE VILLAGE
Originally, the area surrounding current-day Deerlake Village was known as Siniard Farm. It was purchased in the mid 1860s when Mr. Siniard was seeking new land after selling his property in the Pisgah National Forest to George Vanderbilt of Biltmore Estate.
Afterwards, and for many years, the popular Camp Carolina took residence in the beautiful area, capitalizing on the lake and creeks. The entire camp, cabins and all, were transferred in the 1980s to Camp Carolina’s new location, making way for the Deerlake Village development. Today, Deerlake Village offers over 200 lots, a pristine community lake, a 38-acre nature conservancy, walking trails, and a clubhouse with pool and amenities.
